MC Escher
Escher made beautiful, realistic drawings and is talented in multiple medias. His pieces can look extremely realistic, but play with your mind. I am extremely impressed by his use of charcoal. In his picture "Hand with Reflecting Sphere", the shading of the hand and the reflection of the sphere are elements that I strive to include in my reflective/expressive project. The distortedness of his reflection in the sphere is balanced so that there is a sense of unity to the reflected scene and nothing is out of proportion. I love drawing details in hands and his contrast between the darker wrinkles and the rest of the hand provide texture and realism to the work.
Sarah Maycock has many admirable pen and ink drawings in a beautiful washed style. I love animals and many of her pictures are of that subject matter. Quite frankly, I wish I could try to replicate her work I like it so much. Some of her works include those pictured below:
